One Day Community Events
Move it at the Manor (31st May) - Smarter Travel Sutton aims to reduce traffic congestion in the area by encouraging people to walk, cycle and use public transport. Move it at the Manor is the borough’s first ever green travel festival and is a free to attend event packed with fun activities and displays from street performers and local bands. Firefly is powering various parts of the event. www.limelightsports.com
Strawberry Fair (7th June) - Strawberry Fair is the largest volunteer run festival in the UK and was born as an alternative to the Cambridge University’s May Ball. The festival encourages participation and features many local bands, weird artists and wondering performers. Firefly are taking over the reggae stage of yesteryear and presenting a whole new area for your enjoyment. www.strawberry-fair.org.uk
Spring Watch (8th June) - BBC’s Spring Watch is the largest festival of nature in the South and is held in Stamner Park, Brighton. Hosted by the one and only Bill Oddy, it is a fun family day out, encouraging public participation in order to teach people about important issues affecting our climate, like the recycling industry, food miles and permaculture. Activities range from wildlife workshops and building bird boxes through to woodcraft demonstrations using local timber. Firefly provides solar power for the day. www.bbc.co.uk/springwatch
Big Love Festival (21st June) - This one day charity festival is a family event held in Henfield, Brighton and is guaranteed to be a great day out. With an aim to raise money for St John’s Ambulance, great local bands will be playing for the day. Firefly will be producing the main stage.
Rise (13th July) - Set in Finsbury Park, London Rise is a free to attend event celebrating multiculturalism in the capital and taking a firm stance against racism. It was first organised by the Trade Union Congress in 1996 and present Mayor Ken Livingstone made a manifesto pledge to hold the event annually. Past line ups have included De La Soul, Run DMC and Asian Dub Foundation and this years event is shaping up to be equally spectacular. The Firefly Stage will be attendance helping to add a greener edge to the proceedings. www.risefestival.org
Peace Picnic (20th July) - Peace Picnic is a one day event promoting a culture of peace in Brighton and Hove. After 2007’s incredible event which saw 10 000 people enjoy music across 5 stages, the event returns to Hove Lawns for another day in the sunshine. This year the Peace Picnic will include forums, workshops, music, stalls and more. Firefly is supplying Solar power for some of the site.
